The Center for Andean Studies of the University of Warsaw in Cusco (CEAC UV) is a scientific research entity created based on the collaboration agreement signed between the National University of San Antonio Abad del Cusco (Peru) and the University of Warsaw (Poland).
About the Center
The basic areas of cooperation between both institutions include archaeology, conservation, geology, biology (genetics) and protection of natural environment, with the possibility of expanding the list of disciplines in the future. The center aims to stimulate and support the development of joint research projects, and transfer of technological innovations. In addition, one of the objectives of the CEAC is to promote the exchange of scholars and students in order to participate in conferences, seminars, congresses, and courses, within the academic activities of both undergraduate and graduate.
The center also coordinates the research projects initiated in previous years by the University of Warsaw in the Andes, both in Peru and in neighbouring countries (Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Ecuador).
The CEAC UV works under the direction of Dr. Mariusz Ziółkowski, professor at the University of Warsaw. All of the activities of the Center are coordinated by Dr. Celina Luízar Obregón of the National University San Antonio Abad of Cusco

Prof. Dr. Mariusz Ziółkowski
Director of the CEAC
Prof dr hab. Mariusz Ziółkowski Director of the Center for Andean Studies of the University of Warsaw. Art historian and archaeologist, among his specialties, are archaeoastronomy, history of the Inca State, and radiocarbon dating methods.

Edyta Mularczyk, MA
Administrative director
Mrta Edyta Mularczyk MEc, administrative director of CEAC, responsible for the administration of the entity.

Principal Architect
More than 50 years of experience in construction archeology and conservation of architectural monuments in Poland and around the world, including UNESCO World Heritage List sites in Egypt, Bolivia, and Peru. Specialist in conservation of ancient architecture, and 3D laser scanning and modeling.

Dr Dagmara Socha
Head of the bioarchaeological and paleogenetic research team
Dr. Dagmara Socha, head of the bioarchaeological research group at the Center for Andean Studies of the University of Warsaw. Her areas of interest are the Nasca culture and the Capacocha ritual of the Inca culture among others.

Dr. Alexei Vranich
Specialist in reconstructions of movable heritage
Dr Alexei Vranich received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and has been working in South America since 1995. He has extensive research experience around the world in places such as Spain, Italy, India, Peru, Bulgaria, and Costa Rica. He has been recognized by the National Science Foundation for innovative application of technology in the study of the past.

Dr Michal Gilewski
Head of the research group in Mesoamerica
Dr Michał Gilewski Head of the research group in Mesoamerica of the Center for Andean Studies of the University of Warsaw. He is coordinating the Polish part of the geoarchaeological research project carried out at Tak'alik Ab'aj in Guatemala.

Dr Stephen Berquist
Dr Stephen Berquist received his PhD from the University of Toronto, where he investigated sociopolitical organization in the Andean Middle Horizon (AD 600-1000) through architectural organization, spatial theory, and GIS analysis. His current project focuses on political hydrology and climate infrastructure in the Terminal Middle Horizon and Late Intermediate Period (AD 1000-1475).

Jan Klaput, MA
M. Jan Kłaput is a PhD student associated with CEAC. He is leading the research project on Muyu Muyu within the Preludium Grant funded by the Polish Science Centre.

Dr Dominika Sieczkowska-Jacyna
Dr. Dominika Sieczkowska is currently on sabbatical leave at the Silesian Polytechnic University, at the Institute of Physics of the Gliwice Radiocarbon Laboratory. She worked in Poland, Italy, and in Peru. The area of her interest is the Peruvian "jungle eyebrow" and the area of the Machupicchu National Archaeological Park.
